Small corrections. A little patience.
HitchQuest is a top-down, low-speed trailer backing game. Start with the campsite or explore the 36 steering challenges and the open practice bay. Choose a rig or customize one in the Garage. All dimensions are illustrative.
Drive with a keyboard, mouse, or touch
- Press Start practice, then hold W or Up Arrow to move forward; S or Down Arrow to reverse. Release to slow down.
- Use A/D or Left/Right Arrow to adjust steering, or drag the labeled steering slider. Use Center steering to straighten the wheels.
- Hold Space to brake. Escape pauses; R restarts when focus is in the practice area and outside a form field.
- On touch screens, hold Forward or Reverse with one finger and steer with another. Release a drive button to stop accelerating.
- Tab moves through controls. The slider supports arrow keys, and the drive buttons support holding Space or Enter. Moving focus away from the practice area pauses the run.
Work with the trailer
Begin with a small steering input while backing and watch how the trailer angle changes. Straight wheels do not instantly straighten the trailer. Pull forward when the angle grows, then try a gentler correction. The gooseneck puts the hitch just ahead of the truck's rear axle; compare its response with a rear-mounted hitch in the open bay.
Finish an attempt
Fit the entire trailer body inside the outlined target, point its nose along the arrow within five degrees, and stay below 0.1 m/s for one second. Contact, leaving the area, or reaching the 55-degree game jackknife limit ends the attempt. The result names the reason and marks the contact on the scene.
The clock starts with movement. A forward correction counts as one pull-up after at least 0.25 m of forward travel following reverse. Standard bests favor fewer pull-ups, then shorter driving time. Custom practice and imported recordings never enter standard bests.
Keep and share practice
Use Records to download or import progress. There is no account or automatic sync. Export before clearing browser data or switching devices or site addresses. Replay files and links can be forwarded and cannot be revoked. They are unverified recordings, not proof of driving ability.
Accessibility and limits
Controls have keyboard labels and visible focus, and results are available as text. Replays wait for Play; no motion starts automatically. The canvas remains a visual spatial game and is not fully playable through a screen reader alone.
This model teaches steering intuition only. It does not model slopes, water, grip, braking loads, suspension, or real vehicle clearances. Use qualified real-world towing instruction and a spotter where appropriate.
